Feiseanna
A Feis (pronounced "Fesh") is the name given to a judged competition of Irish dance.  Feiseanna (the plural of feis and pronounced "fesh-ah-na") are accredited by the North American Feis Commission.

Dancers compete starting at the Beginner level, and after a 12 month period must advance to Advanced Beginner.

Advanced Beginner 
Must receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd to Advance to Novice level.

Novice Dancers
Must receive a 1st place standing to move forward to Prizewinner.


Prizewinner Dancers
Must place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in all prizewinner dances, and with the teachers recommendations may advance to Preliminary Championship level.

Preliminary Champion Dancers
Must advance to Open Championship when they have won two first places.
 

Competitors are categorized by age, and a dancer may choose to compete in multiple dances. The detailed NAFC rules are posted here.
